Blessed is the Reverb Studio
Whilst the description of a ‘home studio’ conjures up visions of a tiny bedroom packed with recording gear and instruments, Dean’s (drums) home studio is anything but! Blessed is the Reverb Studio (BITRS), is a purpose built, stand-alone dwelling at the rear of his home. It’s completely sound proof to keep on the good side of the neighbours, but also keeping the distractions of the outside world at arm's length. It has all the professional trimmings whilst being a little slice of home, which is an important part of the creative process.
BITRS is also where Distempo create and rehearse in the pre-production phase. Every rehearsal is recorded live in a Pro Tools session, just in case there is a little musical nugget worth dusting off and polishing up at a later stage. The studio has an impressive inventory of microphones, back line gear and instruments all at arm's reach for whenever the creative juices flow.

Once the songs are ready, the crew head up to their other creative space - The Bachelor Pad, where the live ‘bed tracks’ are recorded then it’s back home to BITRS for overdubbing, editing and mixing. When fashioned into something that represents a finished product, it’s off to Neville Clark at Disk Edits for the final mastering process.
It would be fair to say that Distempo would have struggled to release anything without Dean’s knowledge, skills, dedication and extensive wine collection!

The studio is also the home to the exceptionally talented Ollie English with his first EP being the project that christened the studio. Ollie and Dean have worked closely to produce every release since.

The Bachelor Pad
In a top-secret location, in a little piece of paradise nestled in the Adelaide Hills you will find The Bachelor Pad. Well, you won’t find it because it’s in a secret location and no other musicians in Adelaide know of this studio either, because, well it’s not really a studio!

The Bachelor Pad is a mud brick dwelling with curved walls and vaulted exposed beam ceilings. It has fantastic acoustics, which is a bit of a fluke really, given it wasn’t designed for this purpose. The acoustics are one thing, the surrounds have as much to do with the vibe this space exudes. The gardens feature many exotic species of trees and plants lovingly cared for by JB and this adds to the relaxed nature of the environment. It has an air of magic about it and this is why distempo loves recording here.

For the majority of the year it is home to JB, a long time friend of Brenton and Dean but when Distempo calls, he allows the band to ‘move in’ and take over his abode and create their very own unique and bespoke recording space. It happens over a long weekend and the band bunker down, without the need to drive anywhere and without any distractions from the outside world. They eat, drink (and drink some more) and immerse themselves in the recording process. This is where all the instrument ‘bed tracks’ are recorded capturing the essence of a live performance.
